BeardedEagle Co-Founder, Devon Morris Partners with Dallas Independent School District for Principal for a Day Volunteer Program
DALLAS, TX – Devon Morris, co-founder of BeardedEagle Agile Consulting and Training Firm volunteered his time to be Principal for a Day at Emmett J. Conrad High School. The community outreach program is a project of the Dallas Independent School District, in partnership with the Dallas Regional Chamber and Capital One Bank, that brings community leaders into schools across the district.
Morris is a product of Chicago’s inner-city schools.
He openly speaks about the struggles of growing up on the south side of Chicago in a disenfranchised area. Going to school he walked through different gang territories and at times found himself in volatile situations. Knowing the hardship of young people in school districts that are often under-funded and overlooked, it was a welcome invitation received from the Dallas Regional Chamber to partner for this much-needed program.
“I’m from the south-side of Chicago. As a result of growing up in a gang infested area where I had to walk 3 or 4 miles to get to school, I missed school at least once a week,” said Morris.
Principal for a Day
The school day was full of eye-opening experiences that allowed Morris to be hands-on with the staff and students. This was done while assessing how he and his company can contribute, so they can stay involved with the upward trajectory of the school.
Morris has committed to now becoming a supporter of Emmett J. Conrad High School.
In addition, he will propose a program to introduce Agile & Scrum to high school students. This program will help students utilize Agile & Scrum in their everyday lives including their studies, extra-curricular activities, and time management. The program will promote accountability, goal setting, and follow-through.”BeardedEagle will continue to make strides in our
Morris states, “My company and I will continue to make strides to reach and teach young people. We want them to know that they are capable of doing anything they put their minds to, as long as they do not give up. I am living proof of how you can beat the odds.”
As BeardedEagle grows in their community outreach efforts, they will focus strongly on servicing minorities in under-serviced communities and encouraging education and career paths for girls & minorities in Project Management and Information Technology (IT).
Morris will continue seeking out organizations to partner with that are striving for a common goal; improving opportunities in education for minorities in under-serviced communities.
